My Love Letter to my Reusable Drink Containers and Day Two

Day two of avoiding plastic and creating less waste went pretty well. I worked from home today, which made the no- or low-waste life pretty easy. I made breakfast, lunch and dinner from home, which is really one of the easiest ways to avoid the garbage trap.

One of my first tests when working from home is my desire to treat myself with a coffee from my local coffee shop. I try to always bring my mug but have to admit I’ve forgotten in the past. This time, however, I made sure to fill up on my blueberry swiss latte from Priscillas with my iced-coffee mug.

🥤Can we talk about reusable cups and mugs for a moment? I absolutely love my reusable mugs. Each one tells a different story. Well, kinda. My giant insulated mug for iced drinks is just from Starbucks.

💚My green water bottle, however, kept me hydrated for more than 500 miles on the Camino de Santiago.

🌵My cactus cup is new and from Mini Monster, but I love it already and it’s perfect for smaller drinks (especially boba).

☕Last, but certainly not least, is my REI coffee mug. I got this many, many moons ago. I’ve literally had it for about ten years and it has probably saved thousands of paper cups from the landfill (I drink a lot of coffee people).

Do you have a favorite mug? Is it weird I love these inanimate objects so much? Maybe. But I’m not gonna stop loving them.

♻️The only waste I created today was from a Trader Joe’s pizza I made for dinner. I bought this a few weeks ago and while I’d rather not throw things in the garbage, I think it’s better to use what you have.

🥡I love Trader Joes, but friends, I can’t stand all the plastic they wrap food in. This is going to be the hardest part about going waste-free for me because I rely Trader Joe’s for lunch and other quick meals. This means I need to start cooking more!

I’ll recycle the box and unfortunately send the plastic to the landfill.
